How can the cement industry cut ist carbon dioxide emissons by using alternative fuels?
A major source of carbon dioxide emissions is the incineration of fossil fuels: coal and oil. When a fossil fuel is replaced by alternative fuels, environmental gains are made because carbon dioxide emissons from the burning of fossil fuel are avoided and finite resources are saved.
If the raw materials of alternative fuel - waste - had instead been taken to landfill, this would have generated dioxide emissons in connection with the process of decomposition. There is thus a total reduction in carbon dioxide emissons.
